Science and Industry Museum come back bigger, bolder, and better

The Pure AV team were helpful throughout the whole process. Understanding the museum’s needs, the challenges around us with COVID and Brexit, they eased all of our fears and steered us through the project.

A striking new LED video wall in the Science and Industry Museum’s Revolution Manchester Gallery is helping the museum make a big, bold post-lockdown come back.

Situated at the heart of the Revolution Manchester Gallery, the new LED wall replaces a 10-year-old, 52 screen plasma media wall to create a revitalised backdrop for exhibits and events.

The gallery itself is an iconic space, showcasing the city’s rich legacy of world-changing innovations and scientific discoveries and providing a unique setting for private hire and the hosting of banquets, conferences, and galas.

The Solution

Stretching across 12 metres, the new 1.5mm pixel pitch, Samsung LED wall, can operate as one complete canvas or display content divided into three sections, with additional layout flexibility offered by integration with the Userful system (sourced and supplied separately by the museum).

As a result, the museum now has a striking, flexible media wall able to adapt to the wide-ranging demands of the venue.

Improvements to the audio system, including the installation of new speakers and the supply of new microphones, have dramatically enhanced the listening experience for event and conference attendees.

Museum staff have a range of audio options to match usage requirements. The updated speaker system means that the venue can host events up to the 300 person capacity without bringing in additional AV equipment.

A new Birddog 4K PTZ camera and production controller also expands the system’s production capacity, opening up new potential for the recording and streaming of events, including hybrid approaches.

The LED wall is a statement of the museum’s ambition, especially as we remobilise after the pandemic. It wasn’t just a case of us reopening as we were. We’ve come back bigger, bolder and better.

The Benefits

The project has spanned Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, and significant building works at the venue. Despite the logistical challenges created by those events, Pure AV delivered the project smoothly and without disruption to the museum’s operations.

The new media wall creates a showstopping visual canvas that is totally in keeping with the scale and unique nature of the iconic gallery.

In the hands of the museum’s events team and explainers, it will engage and excite museum visitors and help attract a new audience for conference and event hire.
