WMG at the University of Warwick turned to PureAV for help having gained a contract with a local business to offer a new course.
"The problem was that the businesses couldn't guarantee students' availability for all lectures. We needed a way to capture lectures and allow students to access the recordings." said Chris Evans, E-Learning Manager. "We particularly wanted a system that could track the tutor around the room. The UbiCast system allowed us to do this."
The system is very much in demand. "By allowing the end user to control what they see and hear, the system accommodates more learning styles. This is really important in driving effectiveness of learning at WMG.
Our management information shows that even those students who have attended lectures use the system to refresh and revise at a later date. The UbiCast system has undoubtedly been a success - when we surveyed our Masters students, they want more of this - more recorded lectures and more access on line". Chris Evans, E-Learning Manager.
Pure AV designed the solution using UbiCast's EasyCast Campus system. Using simple start/stop recording with automated tracking the lecture is recorded with minimum impact to the presenter. Following a largely automated editing and publication process a ready to view recording is them made available to end-users. The recording allows the user to download and interact with the data (PowerPoint presentations, charts etc) alongside the video of the lecture. This provides an enhanced experience (rich media) versus a video recording alone. Also, by allowing the audio to be downloaded separately, users can listen to lectures via a wide variety of audio devices. This flexibility provides a premium learning experience catering for a variety of learning styles.
