The British Psychotherapy Foundation achieves optimal communication clarity during hybrid events

British Psychotherapy Foundation Hybrid Training Space
Pure AV were a joy to work with. They came up with a creative solution that fitted our budget and they continued to iterate and refine the initial proposal until the project's completion. The feedback from teachers, guest speakers and audience members about the new equipment has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are now much more confident running hybrid seminars and large scale-events. I would highly recommend Pure AV's services to any organisation looking to improve their hybrid conferencing equipment.

- Matthew Aldridge, Director of Membership & Communications, The British Psychotherapy Foundation

The British Psychotherapy Foundation (bpf) is a leading charity, membership organisation and training provider for Jungian, psychoanalytic, and adolescent psychotherapy practitioners across the UK.

Operating from London and Newcastle, the bpf supports practitioners at every stage through their professional certification, while working closely with leading academic institutions such as University College London, the University of Exeter, and Birkbeck, University of London.

As part of its commitment to providing accessible, high-quality training, the bpf were looking to enhance the audio visual experience at its London site - prioritising reliability, simplicity for both in-house and guest presenters, and implementing technology to support hybrid sessions across unified communications platform, Zoom.

With Pure AV’s proven track record in designing and delivering intuitive, technology-rich environments and robust Service Level Agreements, the bpf partnered with Pure AV to bring this exciting project to life. The goal was clear - achieve optimal communication clarity so that no one, whether in the room or joining remotely, struggles to follow conversations and ensure seamless communication for all participants, even when hearing impairments may not be known, making collaboration effortless and inclusive.

Following an in‑depth site survey and a number of planning workshops, our team worked closely with the bpf to redesign a critical space into an intuitive, Zoom‑ready setting. Aligning with stakeholders to understand existing pain points and must‑haves, our team engineered a unified, high‑performance solution that enhances reliability and simplifies every meeting, training, or presentation session.

During the initial stages of this project, the bpf set a clear priority: quality communication in a hybrid setting, with maximum speech intelligibility as standard.

To deliver this requirement, our team specified premium-grade microphones capable of precise presenter and audience pickup, all of which are selectable from a central room controller.

Our programming specialists provided several room modes, while in 'presenter mode', the audience microphone remains muted to keep focus on the presentation. With a single press of a button, the audience microphone can be activated to allow input from the audience members.

For additional inclusivity, we ensured speech playback inside the room to allow attendees with hearing impairment has the best chance of hearing every word.

iiyama display at the British Psychotherapy Foundation

A Central, Large Format Display for High Quality Visuals and Programmed Audio Providing Optimal Voice Intelligibility

At the front of the space, a large‑format, wall‑mounted iiyama display replaces an ageing trolley‑mounted unit, delivering high‑fidelity visuals for all in‑room participants.

Mounted directly above the display, a CrystalVox Loqui 1 loudspeaker provides clear, natural voice reinforcement across the room. Given the space’s distinctive geometry, construction and high ceilings, our in‑house programming specialists carefully calibrated the loudspeaker output to maximise speech intelligibility so every participant in the room hears every word with ease.

To further enhance the audio, two discreet Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling Medium (TCCM) arrays capture voices from across the room which are balanced via a Shure DSP.

Camera System at the British Psychotherapy Foundation

Carefully Placed Camera Systems to Improve the Hybrid Experience

Mounted below the display, a Zoom‑certified Yealink PTZ camera captures in‑room participants with clear, room‑wide coverage for remote viewers. A secondary fixed camera frames the presenter, ensuring the presenter remains visible at all times.

Extron control at the bpf

Intuitively Simple Room Control and a Variety of Connectivity Options to Suit All Users and Presentation Styles

To keep operation of the space effortless, a custom programmed Extron button panel puts essential controls at presenters’ fingertips. With a single touch, they can power displays and in room microphones, adjust speaker volume, and access key presets - through an intuitive interface de-signed to adapt and expand as needs evolve.

Sessions run from a laptop or personal device at the front‑of‑house lectern. Alongside the Extron room control, presenters can quickly switch content sources and choose between secure wireless presentation or a hard‑wired HDMI connection - whichever suits the session best. The clearly labelled interface sits beside the lectern, so visiting lecturers can walk in, connect, and start without needing technical assistance.

For hybrid delivery, a Yealink touch panel at the lectern provides full Zoom control, allowing the presenter to view and manage the meeting, share content, adjust layouts, and select camera views - keeping every session professional.

Fewer Endpoints to Reduce Potential Points of Failure

Behind the scenes, our team audited the legacy hardware to reduce endpoints and align with vendor best practice. With the Android‑powered iiyama display handling native apps, we retired the PC once mounted behind the screen - eliminating a potential failure point, reducing cabling, and lowering maintenance overhead.
