Warwick University IIPSIBack to Case Studies
The International Institute for Product and Service Innovation is a new building co-funded by the European regional development fund and the University of Warwick. It provides dedicated support to SMEs through the demonstration of new technology processes and applications.
Part of the design strategy was to say that we want an environment that’s actually exciting from the moment that people come in. It’s interactive, it’s easy to use, but it’s got a bit of a wow factor as well. Gavin Edwards, manager of digital technology, IIPSI.
Feedback has been extremely positive, end-user staff and visitors are impressed with the level of interactive technology on display and its ease of use. The Technical team values the quality of the end-to-end digital solution delivered within a relatively small budget. Our AV solution is allowing IIPSI to very effectively demonstrate new technology to business.
Our first step was to sit down in a design meeting to work through the brief including requirements ranging from high specification meeting rooms for private workshops, to high quality presentation space for introductory seminars, to interactive technology to get hands on throughout the building.
Tackling the need for a wow factor and freeing up some budget for expenditure in other areas, we deployed a completely iPad-based control solution built around Crestron’s Mobile Pro application and MC3 control processors.
A lot of work went into the interface design with the development of a task based approach in order to make the systems as easy to use as possible for the wide variety of users expected to take advantage of the centre.
Spread over four floors the solution encompasses a wide variety of room types as well as digital signage across each stairwell. Each room is designed to deliver impact, convenience, effectiveness and clarity of sound and vision. As well as meeting time and budget constraints we also worked to the highest of environmental standards, even tracking the number of miles our engineers travelled. The building has now achieved BREEAM ‘excellent’.
