Pure AV named AV partner at flagship project

Pure AV is delighted to secure the £2m audiovisual project for the University of Manchester’s MECD campus development. The flagship project is part of the University’s ten-year campus Masterplan to create a world-class estate benefitting staff, students and visitors.

The state-of-the-art facility is also the University of Manchester’s single largest development ever constructed on site. MECD will house the University’s Engineering schools, innovative teaching spaces and research institutes such as the Dalton Nuclear Institute and the BP- International Centre for Advanced Materials (BP-ICAM). It will offer a range of flexible hi-specification laboratories and lecture spaces to accommodate up to 7,000 students and 1,300 staff. MECD will also incorporate blended learning facilities, workshops and a ‘maker space’ where students will see their engineering creations come to life.

Pure AV secured the contract following competitive tender and will provide design, installation, programming and audiovisual support services across the entire development.

Peter Sutton, Pure Audio Visual managing director, said:

“We are delighted to be part of this exciting initiative and to work alongside an institution recognised as a driving force in educational and research delivery. We are no strangers to large-scale campus deployments, having delivered many prestigious and high-value audiovisual projects under the NEUPC and NWUPC frameworks; including transformational projects at The University of Liverpool and the University of Leeds.
In addition, as a North West headquartered company, it is fantastic to be part of a local project that will bring exceptional facilities to the students of Manchester and encourage investment into the region”.

Diana Hampson, Director of Estates at The University of Manchester, said:

“The Manchester Engineering Campus Development will be a world-leading centre for learning and research. We are providing state-of-the-art facilities that will rival those of our international competitors and help attract world-class academic talent to the institution.”

Pure AV was appointed by the University’s construction partner Balfour Beatty in June of this year and will deliver the project over the next 18 months, with handover to the University expected in 2020.

You can see progress on the construction of the building, including time-lapse video, at the University’s dedicated website.
